What can I say? There\u2019s just something about relevant information delivered succinctly, well-organized and easy to quickly consume.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"713\" data-end=\"888\">I started this blog in normal blog narrative, but then I kept coming back to my bulleted outline. So I\u2019m not sure if this is a give-up or if I\u2019m trail-blazing\u2014perhaps neither.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"890\" data-end=\"1062\">It is a story about operations, the discipline that is required, that which is often lacking, and the foundational premise for the services our team delivers. Here it goes:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1064\" data-end=\"1452\">\n<li data-start=\"1064\" data-end=\"1143\">\n<p data-start=\"1066\" data-end=\"1143\">I\u2019ve been part of a ton of demos in 20+ years of IT services and consulting<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1144\" data-end=\"1168\">\n<p data-start=\"1146\" data-end=\"1168\">Some great, some not<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1169\" data-end=\"1278\">\n<p data-start=\"1171\" data-end=\"1278\">The good ones smoothly exhibit how the technology features either reduce cost or improve service delivery<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1279\" data-end=\"1317\">\n<p data-start=\"1281\" data-end=\"1317\">The bad ones are quickly forgotten<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1318\" data-end=\"1452\">\n<p data-start=\"1320\" data-end=\"1452\">Of the demos that turn into sales or projects, the question of \u201cwho is going to manage this?\u201d comes up way too late in the project<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1454\" data-end=\"1667\">The fact is, the majority of the TCO of a technology is post-implementation.<br data-start=\"1530\" data-end=\"1533\" \/><a data-start=\"1533\" data-end=\"1667\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_new\" class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cio.com\/article\/3005705\/calculating-the-total-cost-of-ownership-for-enterprise-software.html\">Source: CIO article on TCO<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1669\" data-end=\"1830\">The elements under operational costs: maintenance, patches, training, enhancements, user and admin support, DR, the datacenter, downtime, upgrades, and security.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1832\" data-end=\"2088\">With the cloud, there is no upfront cost\u2014great! But all the cost is operational, and the need for management and oversight is even more critical.
